Biography

Senior-Level, Corporate Management,
Consulting and Temporary Management In Marketing

– Advertising, PR, Strategic Planning & Research

Stuart N. Robinson has designed and managed successful marketing programs and advertising campaigns for almost 30 years. His most recent accomplishment was a brand turnaround for Greyhound Lines, Inc . When he started in November 1994, passenger sales had been decreasing steadily since 1981. Over the previous 13 years, losses totaled more than 39%. Advertising budgets, on the other hand, had increased from $14 million in 1981 to $25 million. By December 1997, he had increased sales over 25%, grew passengers over 30%, and decreased promotional expenses over 50% to less than $12 million. In addition to insourcing and outsourcing, he focused on strategic pricing, creative advertising, strong media buying, corporate partnering, innovative product development, insightful market research, selective recruiting, quick training and performance based management.

Dr. Robinson's success at Greyhound marked his third national-scale, corporate marketing turnaround. His second was a brand repositioning effort for the bowling industry. As Vice President of Marketing for the Bowling Proprietors Association of America -- the industry's national trade association – he introduced programs that reversed a 20-yr sales decline. His campaigns produced record-breaking revenues that topped $6 billion representing increases of over 10% per year. They repositioned the image of bowling from a tired league sport to a contemporary recreation and leisure activity. In addition, they revitalized the corporate image of BPAA by identifying it as the organization that led this effort.

Holiday Inns gave Dr. Robinson his first turnaround challenge in the late 1970s. He responded by generating over $150 million in annual sales securing a total 3-yr turnaround of 24%.

In addition to turnaround marketing, Stuart Robinson also has experience in product development marketing and has introduced a variety of new consumer products and services. He has served as a marketing consultant to over 300 national corporate clients. His first product successes were in the late 70s for Texas Instruments, Inc where he analyzed and planned the development of over 100 new consumer electronic products. These included computers for home and business, video games, VCRs, learning aids, CB radios, portable telephones, and safety, security and energy systems for buildings. In the early 80s, Stuart Robinson planned the successful introduction of ATARI's first three lines of video games and computers. Later, he positioned and priced home shopping and interactive cable TV services for Warner-Amex, and planned the marketing strategy for the Electronics-By-Design catalog mail-order business for American Express. Working in tourism, he repositioned the destination image and developed new markets for Texas, New Mexico, Virginia, San Antonio, New York City, Atlantic City, Memphis and others. This included the “Virginia Is For Lovers” and the “I Love NY” campaigns.

Lastly, Dr. Robinson has applied his skills to starting his owned companies. In 1979, he established Marketing Support Services, Inc -- a national, marketing service firm that specialized in market research, strategic planning and brand management. In less than three years, their sales had grown to over $3 million and were serving clients from five offices around the country. He also started ed vid -- the Educational Video Workshop – one of the country's first catalog, mail-order companies to sell videos.

Dr. Robinson has recently received a number of major awards and citations. The Travel Industry Association of America presented him with their Odyssey award for the most innovative marketing program in the travel industry. He also received the Platinum Adrian Award for outstanding advertising from the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association.

Stuart Robinson has Ph.D. and MS. degrees in Consumer Behavior, Advertising and Applied Psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a BA. in liberal arts from the University of Virginia . He is single parent with two sons in college.
